A New Schedule

For the last month I have been working on adding fruits and vegetables to Aiden's diet. Of course, being the "perfect" mom I decided I was going to make all his food other than the cereals. Aiden tried his first vegetable, peas, on St. Patrick's Day. I had never seen someone actually gag and proceed to throw up before that day. This was very disheartening considering I made probably 20 servings of peas. After that I decided it might be a better idea to buy a serving to see if he likes it before making a large batch myself.

Yesterday I decided to go onto the Gerber website to do a little research. Turns out that I feed Aiden enough formula, but not enough solids. I guess it did not really occur to me that the amount should change as he grows. Good job, Mom! Needless to say, I felt the need to find a way to correct this problem at once. I printed out all the information for supported sitters and sitters so that I could make a meal plan for Aiden. By the time I was done I had the whole day planned including naps and playtime.

I have no idea why I would even think to start such a venture on a holiday. My nice little schedule involved me waking up early and even getting Aiden out of bed much earlier than usual. Let me point out that Aiden tends to wake up and play in his crib for a fairly long time before getting fussy. So, I woke up and showered before getting Aiden his first bottle of the morning. This was followed shortly after by his actual breakfast. At this point I was thinking that I could get both of us ready to make a 10am church service. By 9:30 I decided that even though I could get there in time going would disrupt my carefully planned schedule. I know things will come up in the future, but this was day one!

All in all, I think the schedule will work out very well for Aiden. I do not believe in strict schedules. I do think that a schedule needs to be flexible, but I do want to get him on a routine first. Today showed great promise. Even with going to Easter brunch Aiden seemed very happy throughout the day. He even fell asleep within 15 minutes of me putting him down for the night. On paper this schedule looks like a lot more work for me, but I honestly look forward to knowing what to expect and be able to plan around it.
