OH GOD! NOT POT!!!

For those of you that know me, you know that I am not a fan of smoking. I personally think that it is a waste of time and if I want to kill brain cells I will keep watching True Beauty on ABC. I do think (and voted so) that it should be legal for medical reasons. Hey, if a little weed makes fighting cancer a little more bearable than so be it!

That being said, outside of my own personal relationships I really don't care whether people smoke or not. As long as you are not stealing or killing people you are fine by me. So, why is it such a big deal that Michael Phelps hit the bong? What is up with Sheriff Leon Lott considering bring up charges?! Both the campus and Columbus, South Carolina police have said they will not press charges, but Sheriff Lott says that he will not turn a blind eye because Phelps is a celebrity.

So, here are my questions. 1) Is Micheal Phelps' drug use endangering the people of South Carolina? Wouldn't it make FAR more sense to go find the people that are selling it? Aren't there more important investigations that could be carried out? Is he also going to go after the other people at the party or just the "celebrity?"

I want to make it clear that I am not writing this because I am some crazed "Phelps Phan" or something like that. It really is just the principle. I understand not turning a blind eye, but I do not agree with prosecuting because someone is a celebrity either! Way too many people have at least tried pot at some point and if they haven't then one of your friends has. Sorry to say it, but it is just one of those things. I see no reason to waste resources to prosecute unless you are serious about cracking down on drug related crime in general.

Are serious about cracking down on drug related crime in your county? Are you going to go after the people that are bringing in and selling drugs. Are you going to make drug busts on campus parties? Are you going to confiscate all paraphernalia on and off campus? Are you going to go after the people that were hitting the bong with Michael Phelps? If you are serious about cleaning up your county then you have my blessing, but if you are not serious then leave it alone.
